After the announcement from the company that owns ChatGPT, Sam Altman, who had accepted an offer to work at Microsoft, also spoke about the matter and his return to the company:
“I love OpenAI, and everything I’ve done over the past few days has been in service of keeping this team and its mission together. When I decided to join Microsoft on Sunday evening, it was clear that this was the best path for me and the team. With the new board and Satya’s [Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft] support, I’m looking forward to returning to OpenAI and developing our strong partnership with Microsoft.”

Sam Altman’s Resignation from OpenAI
The dismissal of Altman was made by the OpenAI board, which justified the executive’s departure due to ‘lack of transparency in his communications.’ However, in their official statement, the OpenAI board did not cite examples of behavior to prove mistrust in Sam leading the company.
Meanwhile, Greg Brockman, until then chairman of the OpenAI board and also a co-founder of the company, revealed that he was not informed about the decision to fire Altman and resigned in solidarity with the executive. Both had accepted an invitation from Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella to lead a new artificial intelligence research team at the company.
In addition, OpenAI employees published an open letter threatening collective resignation if the company did not reverse its decision and rehire Sam Altman as CEO. The workers pointed out ‘bad faith’ on the part of the company’s board, as no reasons were proven for Altman’s dismissal.
All of this unfolded in five days until OpenAI announced on Wednesday (22) the return of Sam Altman to the position of CEO of the company.
After the announcement from OpenAI, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella revealed that he is satisfied with the decision and hopes that the partnership with the company that owns ChatGPT will be further developed.
“We are encouraged by the changes to the OpenAI board. We believe this is a first essential step on a path to more stable, well-informed, and effective governance. Sam, Greg, and I have talked and agreed they have a key role to play along with the OAI leadership team in ensuring that OAI continues to thrive and develop its mission. We are looking forward to developing our strong partnership and delivering the value of this next generation of AI to our customers and partners.”
